Victorious – Definitely a triumph of music

Written by Shirlene Alusa-Brown | May 23, 2013 | Leave a Comment

Matthew Shell (MTS Music) is at it again.  His song ‘Genesis’ is but a glimpse into the promise that is to be his latest album, ‘Victorious‘.

In ‘Victorious’,  one is introduced to great music production, in part due to the talent that he manages to amass for each song.  Take ‘Genesis’for example.  He produces this with Grammy-nominated Arun Shenoy and showcases the talents of various musicians.  In ‘Another Way To Get To Heaven’, he teams up with Kenny McNeil, a vocal artist/producer from Northern Virginia (he has written for Rob Mercer on his hit single “Amazingly” and has also written for Free, from BET’s 106 & Park) to put together a song highlighting the piano keyboard-caressing skills of Vahagn Stepanyan.

Zewdy introduces us to ethio-soul fusion

Written by Shirlene Alusa-Brown | April 2, 2013 | Leave a Comment

We don’t hear enough of the contemporary artists of Ethiopian descent who do an excellent job of blending contemporary western genres with a traditional Ethiopian rhythm. There is Nhatty Man who melds rap and ethio-beats into  a funky hip-hop dance/rap genre which is both unique and exciting.  Wayna Wondwossen is more contemporary R&B, and very talented in her own right.
