Mital Shah and her team decided to document South Africa in a way that had not been done before. They wanted South Africa to lead the way and they would follow. The result is a beautiful 312 page book filled with fashion portraits, interviews, and local knowledge from South African style influencers as well as breathtaking landscape and historical imagery. The book is about the beauty, style, and soul of South Africa as Mital experienced them.
The book is divided into seven parts; Expression, Ubuntu, Inspiration, Devotion, Harmony, Camaraderie, and Destination. Each section takes you on a journey through South Africa like you are there. There are portraits of people’s personal style including trips to the beauty salon (3 girls getting their hair done under hair dryers captured beautifully) and pictures from Drum magazine from the 70’s. There are interviews with Kyla Rose Smith, Felipe Mazibuko, and Nthato Mashishi. The Inspiration section includes an interview with actress Bonnie Henna, logging some flight miles with Princess Tirelo, and an interview with Nkhensani Nkosi, founder and creative director of Stoned Cherrie.
You feel like you are where each page takes you in WellSouled – South Africa. You turn each page very slowly and are met with yet another pleasant surprise. You just want to bask in the glow of all the aspects of South Africa brought forth in this book. 20% of net sales will be reinvested in social partnerships in South Africa.
