African Dancehall King does New York
Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artist, Samini recently had his debut performance in USA for the Ghanaian community at the much-anticipated Annual Ghana Independence Celebration for New York City. The ever-energetic performer dazzled the sold out crowd with a spectacular live band performance of his hit songs. He performed old tunes plus hit singles from New CD “Daagati” and the crowd just went crazy when he performed “My Baby”.
The crowd came in thick from New Jersey, Maryland, Washington D.C, Virginia, and Connecticut to be a part of this once in a lifetime concert. The ballroom was packed with people and excitement as the dance floor went busy with great tunes courtesy of DJ Ice from UK, Emcee Flip Man, and Co- host Coscanino of UnderDaRock Entertainment. Ghana gets a Music Video Awards
For the first time in the history of Ghanaian entertainment, an award ceremony that fully rewards artists and directors of music videos took place in Ghana. The maiden edition of the 4syte Music Video Awards came last Saturday at the Accra International Conference amidst fantastic musical performances and cheerful jubilations. Since this was the first ever music video awards, it was dedicated to celebrating the most creative concepts and direction from years 2000- 2007. Therefore it was not as competitive as many would have liked it to be.
Lessons in K’sonology
Music is a powerful tool that can be used to impact lives positively; and upcoming singer K’son hopes to use his ‘message songs’ to do just that. Born Kofi Hanson-Asiedu in Ghana, he relocated to the United Kingdom to live with his mother at the age of 8.
Blessed with a squeaky clean and sweet voice, music and singing came naturally to K’son. He began by singing chart songs in the playground and occasionally being asked to sing in front of class. However, he knew he had a future in music when he was once singing at his older sister’s house and heard the approving “ooh you can sing you know!” from his sister. And The Nominees Are…
The list of nominees for the 2009 Ghana Music Awards has been announced and the competition looks keener than ever. Gospel singer Christiana Love topped the list with six nominations. Although the past year has been good for Ghanaian hip-hop, she was able to sail to the top because unlike the hip-hop artists, she was also nominated for Best Female Vocal Performance. However, hiplife/hip-hop acts like Okyeame Kwame and Praye are touted as favourites going into the awards slated for Saturday April 4.
Meet Disastrous, Ghanaian-Made but American Influenced
US based Ghanaian rapper, Disastrous, hopes to put Ghanaian music on the map with his forthcoming sophomore album, poignantly titled ‘Ghanaian-Made, American Influenced’. Born Edem Nigel Amedume in Accra, Ghana, Disastrous discovered his talent as early as age 8. Even before Reggie Rockstone, the Godfather of hiplife, had made a name for himself in the industry, young Disastrous was making a name for himself performing future hits out of Reggie’s demo. It is therefore not surprising that Reggie Rockstone remains to date, one of Disastrous’ biggest influences.

Introducing Nana NYC: Ghana’s Gift to New York
Nana Yaw Boateng, alias Nana NYC, is a US based Ghanaian artist making huge waves among Ghanaian communities in US and Europe. Born in Accra, he spent a few years in Kwahu before migrating to the United States in 1992. He found his love for music early and started playing drums in the church. As a young boy living in the small town of Mpraeso, he was exposed to live band music on the streets every other weekend and at times at funerals. All these honed his passion for music.
Samini brings the heat to 15 cities beginning with New York
Ghana’s rising reggae/dancehall star, Samini recently shared the stage with several international stars at the 2009 Bob Marley Fest in Atlanta, and is currently preparing to kick-start his first major US concert for the Ghanaian community.
Tic Tac still strong after 10 years
One of Africa’s most prolific hip-hop artists, Tic Tac, has launched his 6th album titled, ‘The Tenth Day’ to mark his 10th year in the game. He describes his new album as a classic. “It is lyrically strong. Production wise, it’s second to none and I think it is a fantastic and classic album”. It also features collaborations with Keynote (Nigeria), Tinny, Okyeame Kwame and Asem; with productions by Seven, Jam Master J, Quick Action and several others.
