Nominations for first Nollywood Movies Awards announced

The nominees for the maiden Nollywood Movies Awards (NMA) have been announced at a press conference at the Lagos Ikeja Hotel (Best Western), where the full list of categories and nominees were revealed. The highlights of the ceremony will be screened later on Nollywood Movies (SKY Channel 329) and on other notable platforms.

‘Viva Riva’ sweeps African Movie Academy Awards

ameyaw debrah and jimmy jean-louisThe 2011 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held over the weekend almost became a battle for trophies between the two most nominated movies, ‘Sinking Sands’ and ‘Viva Riva’ as representatives and winners from those movies went on to the stage severally to collect a number of AMAA statuettes. DR Congo’s ‘Viva Riva’ stunned the competition by bagging 6 of the awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography. ‘Sinking Sands’ followed with three awards including a Best Actress nod for the lead actress, Ama K Abebrese, Best Screenplay and Best Makeup.

Halle is said to be playing a  character named Sara ” a modern-day adventurer, deeply drawn to close encounters with magnificent White Sharks who rule the primal predator shore of  isolated Guadalupe islands.

When her husband chooses ambition over his wife’s safety in a split second encounter with the jaws of death, her marriage nearly breaks apart. A year later, a monsoon season voyage back to the same island becomes an escalating series of terrifying underwater confrontations and gut-wrenching emotional challenges.

Yemi Blaq replaces Eamonn Walker on ‘ Sinking Sands’

Yemi BlaqNigerian actor Yemi Blaq joined the cast of the psychological drama “Sinking Sands,” which wrapped up a few weeks ago, replacing British actor Eamonn Walker in the supporting role of Dr. Zach Matthews.   Though Mr. Walker had to bow out of the supporting role due to scheduling conflict, he is expected to make a cameo appearance in the film, with scenes to be shot at a later date.

“Une Affaire de nègres”, Un film impréssionnant de Osvalde Lewat

Osvalde Lewate-Hallade est une réalisatrice Camerounaise qui raconte dans son nouveau documentaire, la terrible histoire des répercussions de la mise en place d’un commandement special, institué par le gouvernement Camerounais en 2000, pour lutter contre le bandistisme.

16038Cette unité spéciale procède à des rafles et très rapidement, il ya des dérives, certaines personnes  sont tués sans aucune preuve, sans procès, ni jugements.  D’autres ont disparu comme le mari de Denise (Etaha), ainsi que ses huits de ses voisins qui ont été enlevés par une unité du commandement opérationnel dans la ville de Bepanda, à Douala.

Après avoir remporté la 1ère place et gagné son premier Prix du Meilleur Réalisateur au Festival du Film de Tribeca 2003, à seulement 24 ans, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi déclarait que ce qu’elle voulait faire prochainement, c’était de “réaliser un film édifiant sur l’Afrique et pensait ainsi  que la musique serait une façon de le faire.” Et qui d’autre pouvait elle choisir, apart la plus grande sensation musicale Africaine de tout temps, le légendaire et unique, Youssou Ndour.
