Dawn Okoro – Power

I recently went to the Three Peas Art Lounge in Chicago to see Dawn Okoro’s exhibition entitled Power. According to gallery curator Maya Camille, the exhibition is about powerful yet feminine black women like the First Lady. It shows us what we are and what we are not.

The gallery itself was a small, intimate space with couches and chairs in the front and a bar displaying several different kinds of wines. The show was attended mostly by easy-going, black professionals chatting against the up-beat yet relaxing music playing smoothly through the overhead speakers. » Read more…

Mr President Barack Obama awards Bishop Desmond Tutu with a Medal of Freedom

President Obama awarded the Presidential Medal’s of Freedom to Bishop Desmond Tutu and 15 other honorees including Sen. Edward M. Edwards Kennedy, Billie Jean King, Sidney Poitier, Muhammad Yumnus, and scientist Stephen Hawking. The prestigious event took place August 12 2009, at the White House where president Obama will present the the Medal of Freedom.

Baby Kenzo, who was  born on  Saturday May 30th  and weighed 8 pounds, had his first photo shoot in OK Magazine with his parents and his half sisters, Aoki and Ming Lee (from a previous marriage to mogul Russel Simmons).

Former President, Bill Clinton, hosted a gala dinner for Nelson Mandela that attracted a large celebrity turnout.  Guests included Morgan Freeman, Donna Karan, Alfre Woodward, Karolina Krukova, Keisha Whitaker, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Chris Chameleon, Freshly Ground, Emmanuel Jal, Loyiso, Sipho Mabuse, Vusi Mahlasela, Angelique Kidjoe, Thandiswa Mazwai, Baaba Mal, Akon, Russell Simmons, Suzanna Owiyo, Gloria Gaynor (of ‘I Will Survive’ fame), and Josh Groban.

Mandela’s wife, Graca Machel, was also in attendance, with his daughter and his grand-daughter. UK’s Prime Minister, Gordon Brown delivered a video address to the gathering, expressing his support for a Mandela Day. » Read more…

The Ivorian reggae artist branded for his activism ignited this eclectic audience with his strong political lyrics that convey global peace and unity.
