Estelle leads the pack of Africans with the most nominations for “American Boy“, followed by the legendary Youssou N’Dour for “Rokku mi Rokka (Give and Take)” and the Soweto Gospel Choir for “Live at the Nelson Mandela Theater Album” under Best Contemporary World Music Album. Looking at the election through the eyes of hip-hop artists around Dakar, Senegal’s capital, this documentary mixes interviews, freestyles, and commentary from journalists, artists, and politicians. Mokobe: An Artist With A Heart To Make A Difference
The artist MOKOBE from the group 113, was invited for his first on-the-road US tour. Along side producer Manu Key and DJ Noise, MOKOBE had planned to entertain his US fans in a way they had never seen before. The concert was indeed phenomenal. MOKOBE and crew, who just left Charlotte and Atlanta, landed in Washington last Wednesday . The First Annual African Music Awards
Musically speaking, 2008 has been a year full of firsts; first it was the MTV African Music Awards, which was a big success, and, in a couple of weeks, live in London on December 27 2008, the African Music Awards (AMA) organization will present the first African Music Awards.
Aimed at promoting the diverse and rich African culture through music, it will be televised to over 10 million viewers worldwide with performances from the Continent’s giants. D’Banj Rules the MAMAs in Abuja
As expected, the maiden edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA) exploded live on Saturday 22 November 2008 at The Velodrome in Abuja, Nigeria. The ‘Koko Master’ D’banj was the biggest winner of the night with three MAMA ‘Golden Microphones’ for Best Male, Artist of the Year, and Listener’s Choice. Kenya’s most sought after female artist, Wahu, took home Best Female. Best Video went to Ikechukwu from Nigeria for his video – ‘Wind Am Well’, while Alicia Keys won the honors in Best R&B.
Kwaw Kesse to collaborate with Wyclef?
The outspoken and highly unpredictable self proclaimed ‘King of the Streets’, Kwaw Kesse has challenged hip-hop superstar Wyclef Jean who is currently in Ghana for the ‘Zain 026 Experience’ concert, to collaborate with him on a track before leaving. Kwaw Kesse threw this open invitation to Wyclef in the full glare of Ghanaian and international media during a press conference ahead of the concert.

US based Haitian hip-hop superstar Wyclef Jean and top female rapper Eve have both promised Ghanaians of an amazing performances during the highly anticipated ‘Zain 026 Experience’ concert on Saturday November 22, at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.
Both artists, performing in Ghana for the first time, have expressed excitement about their visit and they look forward to having a memorable time with fans at the Ohene Djan Stadium. “It is an honour to be here in Ghana, the number place in Africa for me…we came to do our thing…We are excited to be here”, said Wyclef, while Eve remarked, “I am very happy, very pleased, very honored to be here in Ghana…I have been wanting to come here for a long time…thank you for having me…come out for the show, you will surely have a good time”. » Read more…

ZAIN, MTV Bring a Taste Of Miami To Nigeria
Flo Rida will perform for the first time in Africa at the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA) as MTV salutes the power of US and African hip hop. Joining the whirlwind Miami MC performing at the event will be MAMA award nominees 9ice (Best Hip Hop, Best New Act nominee), Naeto C (Best New Act nominee), Ikechukwu (Best Video nominee) and Jua Cali (Best Male nominee). I have goose bumps up and down me right now, and tears in my eyes. The idea that artists in Africa will finally receive their just do’s, sharing a stage with Flo Rida, The Game, Kelly Rowland – this is what its all about for me. Amen (and its about time)! Thank you to Zain and MTV for making this happen.
