Proverb feat. Hip Hop Pantsula -”BreadWinners”
If there is one movement that I’m in total support for, it is the movement of a Black man standing-up and taking care of his responsibilities– whether it’s taking care of home and family, or defeating the odds and paving the way for others to follow. It is no secret the struggle faced by black men today in our society regardless of which corner of the earth they might be, are the same or somewhat similar and to continuously witness a great number of black men from different industries take a stand and excel in their fields, always humbles me because I know they are kings and kings live up to their titles.

Sister Fa: The MC Warrior
In a hip-hop, male-dominated industry, female MC’s still have a hard time trying to break into the hip-hop industry. I’m talking about how we’ve continuously seen females come and go out of the industry with some just laying the swords down and refusing to fight in this male dominated jungle. Those who do fight come to terms with the harsh reality that at the end of the day, no matter how hard they work, their victory will always be less than that of the male hip-hop artists. Although the struggle is far from over, I am here to shine the light and share some rays of hope by musically introducing you to Fatou Mandiang Diatta a.k.a Sister Fa.
WAGEBLE: More than just a hip-hop duo
Wageble is Senegalese hip-hop group made of two hard-core MC’s who go by the name Eye-Witness and Waterflow, and together they named themselves Wageble, meaning “coming from the ghetto or a place where the less minority lives”. The hip-hop duo, despite having attained fame and fortune, still feel profoundly connected to their chosen name, for they come from the heart of Dakar, the capital of Senegal, where poverty is a door step away. Determined to take that first step towards a thousand miles, the duo teamed up, creating a hip-hop movement bigger than they expected.

Cameroonian singer Wax launches new album
Cameroonian-born, South-African based singer, ‘Wax’ Nde Ndinfonka is ready to launch his fifth studio album on July 29th, in South Africa. The singer who has been in the music industry for 8 years and has shared the stage with artists such as Nigerian-German, Asa, describes his reasons for naming the album “The African Dream“.
“This album comes at a time when I feel comfortable with myself as a musician. Growing up in a small African city, it was generally unacceptable for me to strive to be a musician, so I am trying to send am message out to Africans that it is okay for the society to let people strive to be whatever they want to be. For example, in the song I talk about my story and see it reflecting in every young African’s life. I believe everything starts with a dream, and we should not only be allowed to dream, but to pursue those dreams.” » Read more…

Awesome Tapes From Africa
African music is usually hard to find, especially the really great stuff that you can only find on cassette in Africa. There are so many gems that don’t get exposed so it was especially gratifying to see that there was a website dedicated to putting some of the best music out there, in a forum that would attract the most eyes.
