Nigeria’s sensational rapper/singer Nneka jetted to Kenya on Thursday, 02 February 2012, in aprelude to her concert which was held on February 4th, 2012 in Tree House club on Museum Hill Road. The show, sponsored by the Goethe Institute, Kenya, featured Dan ‘Chizi’ Aceda, and a DJ set by Zelalem. Speaking of the show, Nneka says her fans should expect songs from her new album, ‘Soul is Heavy and No Longer at Ease‘.

Blitz Bazawule – Lyrical activist, lyrical ambassador
Blitz the Ambassador is lyrically gifted. With the ability to rhyme on a dime (see…he is rubbing off on me already), he raps about issues that make you take a second look–a deeper look–and see what is really there. His album, ‘Stereotype’, was extremely popular. In it he addresses issues that affect us all, and draws us into the parallels and similarities between Africa and the Diaspora. The verbal imagery is powerful, drawing us into the images he paints as he leads us on this musical journey. Mzungu Kichaa shares his passion for rap, social issues, reggae, and Kiswahili
Mzungu Kichaa is an artist who raps about social issues in Kiswahili. This feat would not seem unique, except that he is Danish and has lived in Tanzania since he was fifteen years-old. Ugandan R&B/Soul artist receives Radio France International Discovery Award for Best New Artist
Last week, Ugandan R&B/Soul artist Maurice Kirya (aka “The African Idol”) received the Radio France International (RFI) Discovery Award for ‘Best New African Artist.’ The 26-year-old was the first non-Francophone musician to win the prestigious award, which was presented to him in N’Djamena, Chad. Performing in the presence of the country’s President Idriss Déby and First Lady Hinda Déby, Kirya displayed a new fresh talent much needed in the global music scene.
With songs from his popular “Misubbaawa” album – available on itunes – Kirya received a standing ovation from a packed 30,000 seat stadium. Playing hit songs “I will Sing,” “Boda Boda,” “Angels Carried Me,” and “Wooye,” Kirya recalls “I did not win the RFI award just for me – I won it for my fans in Uganda and for the people of Africa.”
