Brenda Fassie, the renegade who spoke for the people

Brenda Fassie was the kind of woman you didn’t forget.  Her wild and independent style helped her make a name for herself, and allowed her to become a familiar voice and face for the disenfranchised in South Africa. as the anniversary of her birthday comes up (November 3, 1964), we would like to remember who she was.

Popularly known to her fans as MaBrr, she started her musical career as a young girl, singing for tourists while her mother played the piano.  She later went on to join the group, Joy, then became lead singer for the group Brenda And The Big Dudes.  She had her son, Bongani, with one of the musicians  in the group.

Solange Knowles Shoots new music video in South Africa

While her big sister, Beyonce was back in the States chilling at Jay’s Made In America Festival, Solange Knowles jetted to South Africa with mother, Tina Knowles to shoot her beautifully eclectic new music video for “Losing You” which Solange describes as “eclectic with ’80s references and African percussion influences”.

Curl queen Solange traveled to the township of Cape Town, South Africa–Langa & Khayelitsha–over the weekend to shoot her rand new music video for “Losing You.”  The song will appear on a new album Solo is working on, and we’re loving the vibe already.

Sarkodie and Viviane Ndour collaborate with Jerry Wonda

2012 BET Awards Best African Act winner, Sarkodie and Senegalese pop singer, Viviane Ndour were recently seen visiting Platinum Studios in New York in the company of Grammy winning producer, Jerry Wonda ahead of the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA). Both Sarkodie and Viviane were in the running for Best Pan-African Artist which eventually was won by Viviane, who is signed to Wonda Music.

According to inside sources, Sarkodie and Viviane, recorded a new single produced by the celebrated producer, Jerry Wonda. The song is expected to be released across Africa before the end of the year.  Jerry ‘Wonder’ Duplessis has recorded the likes of Busta Rhymes, Mary J Blige, The Fugees, Trey Songz, Akon, Olivia, Diddy and Carlos Santana.
