Tumi: No guarantee

Itumeleng Ramailane, better known as Tumi, is a newcomer on the South African music scene that plays like a veteran. His debut album,”No Guarantee“, is a soulful mix of R&B and funk. Tumi’s voice is like silky chocolate, embracing the notes and drawing them smoothly over your eardrums like a sinfully delightful dessert. » Read more…

Wayna - Higher Ground

Wayna is a very talented singer, based in Washington DC, who is making waves (although, after listening to Higher Ground, I am not sure why she isn’t signed to a major label yet) on the local scene. We had talked to her previously, and now have the privilege of reviewing her latest album, Higher Ground. » Read more…

RJ Benjamin - Swimming in the Soul of Music

Written by Prudence Chauke | May 14, 2008 | Leave a Comment

RJ Benjamin

The sound of this mans voice is filled with so much soul, that it often gets people mistaken him to be a black African man but RJ Benjamin is a captivating white native South African. RJ is a singer, song writer and a producer whose skills have definitely redefined the R&B and Neo-soul perspective of things in the South African music industry. He’s music sound is food to the souls but yet somehow you find yourself dancing to the rhythms from the different instruments that are intertwined together. RJ Benjamin has really raised the bar with his music and his current album “Swimming in the Soul of Music” is truly an affirmation that he’s the next big thing (Quincy Jones watch out!) . » Read more…

Chosan helps Africa Celebrate U2

Written by Shirlene Alusa-Brown | February 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment

In the Name of Love - Africa celebrates U2

Chosan seems to be everywhere a positive impact needs to be made. His latest effort involves working with Les Nubians, Angelique Kidjoe, Vieux Farka Toure, Vusi Mahlasela, Keziah Jones, Soweto Gospel Choir, and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars in a tribute to Bono and U2. The tribute pays homage to Bono and U2’s humanitarian relief efforts to alleviate suffering from disease and poverty in Africa. The great part about it is that the songs are all an African interpretation of U2’s songs. I love the idea of jamming to a traditional African sound with U2 lyrics, and their creative interpretation is phenomenal. » Read more…
