Tumi: No Guarantee
Itumeleng Ramailane, better known as Tumi, is a newcomer on the South African music scene that plays like a veteran. His debut album,”No Guarantee“, is a soulful mix of R&B and funk. Tumi’s voice is like silky chocolate, embracing the notes and drawing them smoothly over your eardrums like a sinfully delightful dessert. » Read more…
Wayna - Higher Ground
Wayna is a very talented singer, based in Washington DC, who is making waves (although, after listening to Higher Ground, I am not sure why she isn’t signed to a major label yet) on the local scene. We had talked to her previously, and now have the privilege of reviewing her latest album, Higher Ground. » Read more…
Ayo Ogunmakin - Joyful

Heralded as a mix between Minnie Ripperton and Sade, her latest offering, Joyful, is drawing accolades and shining the spotlight on this relative unknown. » Read more…
RJ Benjamin - Swimming in the Soul of Music
The sound of this mans voice is filled with so much soul, that it often gets people mistaken him to be a black African man but RJ Benjamin is a captivating white native South African. RJ is a singer, song writer and a producer whose skills have definitely redefined the R&B and Neo-soul perspective of things in the South African music industry. He’s music sound is food to the souls but yet somehow you find yourself dancing to the rhythms from the different instruments that are intertwined together. RJ Benjamin has really raised the bar with his music and his current album “Swimming in the Soul of Music” is truly an affirmation that he’s the next big thing (Quincy Jones watch out!) . » Read more…

Putumayo Presents - African Party
Putumayo has a remarkable ability to locate the best of what there is, musically, on any continent and put it on an album. African Party celebrates the laughter and sunshine that is Africa. Perenperen has a zouk feel to it and will have you swaying in time to the music, imagining that you are at the beach. Kunze Kwadoka by Oliver Mtukudzi has a great traditional beat. » Read more…

Omega Bugembe Okello - Kiwomera Emmeeme
Omegadraws from her African, in particular Ugandan, roots to bless her listeners with a rich worldly flavour. Musically, she is old school in a new school kind of way, using her music as a medium of healing, loving, education, empowerment and celebration with well thought out lyrics and a memorable voice to boot. » Read more…
Chosan helps Africa Celebrate U2
Chosan seems to be everywhere a positive impact needs to be made. His latest effort involves working with Les Nubians, Angelique Kidjoe, Vieux Farka Toure, Vusi Mahlasela, Keziah Jones, Soweto Gospel Choir, and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars in a tribute to Bono and U2. The tribute pays homage to Bono and U2’s humanitarian relief efforts to alleviate suffering from disease and poverty in Africa. The great part about it is that the songs are all an African interpretation of U2’s songs. I love the idea of jamming to a traditional African sound with U2 lyrics, and their creative interpretation is phenomenal. » Read more…
Tinariwen - Aman Iman: Water is Life
Tinariwen is composed of five men and one woman from Mali. Their latest album, Aman Iman, is an acoustic blend of contemporary music and Touareg style music sang in French and Tamashek. Tinariwen starred in a 52 minute documentary called Teshumara, or ‘the guitars of the revolution’, recently played in movie theaters in Europe. It tells the history of the Tuareg rebellion and the role played by Tinariwen in this struggle for freedom. Combined with Amassakoul, it’s been released as the CD/DVD combo The Soul Rebel Of African Desert. They have promoted their music through a flurry of concerts around the world, and have even been privileged to play with Carlos Santana, who is very impressed with their musical abilities. » Read more…
Hil St. Soul - SOULidified
Born in Lusaka, Zambia, Hilary Mwelwa relocated to London with her family at age five. As a child she adopted her father’s love of music, as their home was immersed with the sounds of traditional Zambian music along with such American R&B/soul icons as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. This influence from such R&B greats is evident in Hilary’s powerful, soulful vocals. » Read more…
