Nigeria gave coach Samson Siasia a befitting birthday present late Tuesday night producing a commanding performance to wallop the little Devils of Belgium 4-1 in the first semi-final of the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament. Much was expected of Nigeria’s skillful attacking quartet of Peter Odemwingie, Solomon Okoronkwo, Chinedu Ogbuke, and on-field captain Victor Obinna, but the Eagles can thank full-backs Olubayo Adefemi and Chibuzor Okonkwo for also contributing one goal apiece.

Gold Boots

There’s this old adage amongst African footballers that “The player makes the boot, the boot never makes the player.” We learned this early on as most of us played with our bare feet in the streets or on rocky hard surfaces. Presently, in this age of globalization and marketing, most African players want shoes similar to Samuel Eto’o’s Pumas or John Obi Mikel’s Nikes. Dr Martin Perry and football boot website www.Footy-Boots.com have joined forces to classify footballers according to their choice of footwear. Hopefully you find the guide below somewhat interesting, and we at least have another explanation for El Hadji Diouf’s petulance over the years – his awful looking orange boots.
