Chicago Fire’s African Players
Patrick Nyarko is Chicago Fire’s forward from Kumasi, Ghana. He was a star forward and three-time All-ACC selection for the Virginia Tech Hokies soccer team in 2007, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference freshman of the year, and was named to the all-ACC team. He was named a finalist for the Hermann Trophy in 2007 and decided to forgoe his senior year to sign up for the 2008 MLS Superdraft.
DC United’s African Players
Mawete Ange N’Silu is a DC United Forward from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). He started his soccer career at the age of 15 with Le Havre AC of French Ligue 1 in 2002, and then went on to sign with FC Le Mont of Lausanne, Switzerland in 2008. It was here that he scored a total of 25 goals in 31 games.
Right to Dream Soccer Academy thrashes Ultimate FC
Right to Dream Soccer Academy, Africa’s rep to the 2008 Manchester United Premier Cup world finals, proved its superiority in African academy football when its under-15 and 17 teams thrashed visiting Nigerian team, Ultimate FC 4:0 and 5:0 respectively last Saturday. It formed part of the friendly matches lined up for the Lagos-based amateur second division team during their one-week tour to Ghana.
Ultimate FC has toured the Ivory Coast, Togo and Benin playing against some of the best under 15 and under-17 teams on the West coast. They first played in a friendly match against the Shooting Stars of Achimota at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Kaneshie, Accra. They lost 2:0 in the under-15 category and drew 1:1 in the under-17 division.
According to Coach Tunde Johnson, Ultimate FC could not perform creditably in Ghana due to the stress of traveling and the lack of basic needs such as training pitch and accommodation for his team. He however hoped to return to Ghana with a better prepared team to redeem the image of his team.
Dominic Oduro – FC Dallas
Dominic Oduro, a striker with FC Dallas soccer club is well known for his speed. He started his career at the University of Ghana and then went on to Virginia Commonwealth University where he played so well he was honored with a 2004 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year award and a Third Team All-American spot.
In the 2006 Major League Soccer (MLS) Super Draft, he was picked up in the second round by FC Dallas, and they have yet to regret the decision. He is often put into the game to help with speed and make the defining difference in the Dallas’ team’s game.
Claude Makélélé Sinda -Chelsea’s Star Defensive Midfielder
Claude Makelele Sinda is a defensive midfielder for Chelsea F.C. in the Barclay Premiere League. He is known as one of the greatest defensive midfielders in the game. Sulley Muntari – Portsmouth FC’s Midfielder
Sulley Muntari has a powerful kick that is already making an impact in the African Cup of Nations 2008. He was part of the team that played in the finals against Argentina in the 2001 World Youth Cup. He signed up with an Italy team, Udinese, and played for them for a while, helping them get to several championship matches. In 2006 he played for Ghana in the World Cup with fellow countryman Micheal Essien, a game that made the Ghanian team a team to be remembered as they fought hard against the German team. Didier Drogba – The Soccer BadBoy
Didier Drogba, ‘Drogs’ to some, is a very impressive striker for the Chelsea team. Him and team mate Michael Essien have been the duo to watch as they play in the Barclay Premier League. He scored 20 goals in 2006 and was second to Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo in the voting for the PFA Player of the Year award. » Read more…
Michael Essien – Chelsea’s Golden Midfielder
Michael Essien is a superb midfielder for the Chelsea team in the Barclay Premier League. Signed on by Jose Mourinho, some people thought that he was an over-priced, overrated player that didn’t deserve the amount he was getting. His incredible energy and stamina have proven the naysayers wrong. In the 2007 season alone, Essien managed to win the Chelsea Player of the Year Award, an FA cup winner’s medal, and a League Cup winner’s medal to his achievements.
