ARISE Africa Fashion Week
The Arise Africa Fashion Week went on from June 12 2009 to June 20, 2009 with a grand prize winner getting a chance to showcase their designs in New York’s Fashion Week. This was a great opportunity for the budding designers to get their work showcased on one of the most prestigious catwalks in the world.
The designers that participated came from South Africa, Madagascar, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon, Guinea, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Angola, Ivory Coast, Namibia, Martinique, Mozambique, Egypt, Botswana and Morocco. Arise Africa Fashion Week
The inaugural Arise Africa Fashion Week is ready to kick off in Johannesburg from the 12th – 19th June. The event which is a collaborative effort between African Fashion International (AFI) and ARISE magazine, hopes to take African fashion to the world, while contributing to the realisation of the African Renaissance.

Supermodel/Actress Amanda Annan: Beauty Inside Out
British supermodel Amanda Annan may have entered into modelling by chance but her career so far has been nothing short of amazing. The slinky beauty says she did not choose modelling but modelling chose her. While working part time in a clothing store at age 16, she was head hunted by the world famous Unique Model Management agency. Within two weeks Amanda was shooting her first campaign for Vidal Sassoon. With her beauty and grace, it was not before long she started flying round the world for shoots and runway assignments in London, Paris, Milan and New York.
Amanda’s origin is as interesting as her career: her father is from Ghana and his father moved to Ghana as a child from Brazil in search of his roots; while her mother is from Martinique but grew up in Lagos. However Amanda was adopted at a young age and grew up in London. As the niece of Kofi Annan, she picked up plenty ambassadorial traits which she deploys in a number of charitable organizations like the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), as well raising money for the African Film Commission.
After gracing the covers of magazines like Elle Magazine, Women to Women, Photo Magazine and Fashion News, Amanda has also ventured into new territories including acting and broadcasting among others. Cote Minou Wins African Fashion Designers Competition
Korto Momolu was on hand to showcase some of the best in African fashion design and modeling at Zanizbar, on the Washington DC waterfront. The crowd was treated to a wonderful display of great African fashion.

Boris Kodjoe brings Ziami home to Ghana
Exopa Model Agency International has left nothing to chance in order to ensure that this year’s Ghana Fashion Weekend turns heads in the fashion world. This year, joining the numerous fashion designers from Ghana and across Africa would be Ghanaian-German Hollywood actor, Boris Kodjoe. The ‘Soul Food’ star will get the chance to showcase his Ziami clothing line to Ghanaians for the first time and also use the opportunity to find out more about his father’s home country.
Korto to judge first DC’s First Annual African Competition
The summer is here and the D.C, Maryland, Virginia area has begun again with its series of booming activities to keep you going all the way till September. This Saturday May 30th, the 1st Annual African Fashion Competition (AAFC) will take place at Zanzibar on the D.C Waterfront from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Set up by Bisi Entertainment & Talent Group in collaboration with Jules Management & Consulting, the event is anticipated to be the beginning of a new tradition for the area residents to be part of.
Ethiopian is Germany’s Next Top Model.
On May 20th 2009, 19 year old Ethiopian, Sara Nuru, was announced the winner of the wildly successful reality show that started in America and has now spread to Germany and Canada. The East African beauty beat 21,000 other applicants who auditioned for the show and was named winner at the end of the show that ran for three months.
