Ethiopian is Germany’s Next Top Model.
On May 20th 2009, 19 year old Ethiopian, Sara Nuru, was announced the winner of the wildly successful reality show that started in America and has now spread to Germany and Canada. The East African beauty beat 21,000 other applicants who auditioned for the show and was named winner at the end of the show that ran for three months.
Ataui Deng - The New Kid On The Block
Brace yourselves fashion world, there’s a hot new face in town. She is sizzling and she is related to a top model whose grace and elegance have made her a favorite on and off the runway. Stunning and elegant, it is hard to believe that she is only 17.
Deng signed with Trump Management in New York in 2008 and she walked the fall African Fashion Collective and Christian Siriano shows in New York. Many say that she is Alek Wek’s niece. There is a strong resemblance. She is definitely one to watch.
Behati Prinsloo - Namibia’s beauty
Behati Prinsloo is a Namibian supermodel and the spokeswoman for Victoria’s Secret sub-brand, Pink. Discovered at the age of 16 in Cape Town by Sarah Doukas, she has gone on to grace the pages of of Italy’s Muse magazine and the British Telegraph Magazine, Russian Vogue (February 2007), and American Velvet (June 2007). Her most recent cover was in RUSSH magazine.
She has been ranked 31st on the Top 50 Models Women and 14th on “The Top Sexiest Models” list by models.com and been in the Victoria’s Secret shows in 2007 and 2008. Some folks may recognize her as the rich girl in The Virgins’ video “Rich Girls“. Proud to be from Africa, she speaks fondly about it and is involved in charities that will benefit it.
Kiara Kabukuru - Still Got What It Takes
She was HOT in the 90’s and still has the look that got her into Vogue Italia. Kiara Kabukuru is originally from Uganda. Her campaigns include CoverGirl, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, L’Oréal, and Calvin Klein.
She has graced the cover of Vogue Magazine, Vogue Spain, and Amica Italy and has done several editorials. She has been signed to several different model agencies and had a long illustrious career. Not bad for someone in an industry where the lifespan of a career barely makes 5 years.
Ubah Hassan - Vogue Italia Got It Right
Ubah Hassan, a Somalian model, was chosen to be part of the historic issue of Vogue Italia which featured some of the hottest names in the model world. She held her own among famous names like Alek Wek and Liya Kebede, and proved she has what it takes to be a model icon.
She signed with Click Management Agency in New York in 2007 and was the model of the week on Models.com in May of 2008. In July of 2008 she was one of the models in the black issue of Vogue Italia (not bad for a newcomer). She closed Ralph Lauren’s spring show in New York and is now part of a Ralph Lauren ad campaign. Busy lady, and we can see why!
Nazri Segaro - Hot and In Demand
Nazri Segaro, born Nazrawit Tamiru Segaro, is an Ethiopian model with a great look and wonderful poise. She was one of the more memorable models on Project Runway, Season 3 and is a favorite with people who love her natural hair style.
Modeling is My Life - Kate Menson
Kate Techie Menson, winner of the 2008 Face of Africa modeling competition has declared her intention to become the next African
international supermodel. She agrees that apart from Oluchi, winner of the first edition of the competition, none of the other winners has been able to attain global recognition; and she hopes that she would be able to change all that.

Camilla Barungi is a Ugandan supermodel who was featured on Project Runway, Season 3. Laura Bennett, considered Camilla her muse, and, looking at her clear complexion, legs that go on forever, and doe-shaped eyes, one can understand why.
Camilla Barungi’s past is one that was filled with sights related to the horrors of war and fighting in Uganda. Honorine Uwera - A Rwandese Gem
Honorine Uwera is a Rwandese model who grew up in Canada. She currently lives in New York City and is signed to IMG Models.

Sera Lubowa - Miss Uganda 2007
Sera Lubowa was born in Kampala, Uganda, moved to Paris, France when she was 6 years old, and then moved to Texas to live with her mother who had moved away earlier. At age 7, she enrolled in Kendal Dance Studio to learn Ballet and Jazz. She helped create the L.D. Bell Steppers at L.D. Bell High school, led them to the Legacy of Champions, and enrolled in the KD Studio Actors Conservatory while she was in high school.
She was discovered during a club photo shoot and introduced to modeling. Crowned Miss Uganda 2007-2008, she has gone on to use her fame to draw attention to foundations like Invisible Children, Children on a Mission, and KACI&I. To learn more about her, visit her website.
Hawa Ahmed - Winner of Next Top Model Sweden 2007
Hawa Ahmed competed in the Swedish Next Top Model competition and walked away the grand prize winner. It is no surprise that she won, as she is beautiful, graceful, and intelligent.
Originally from Somalia, she moved with her family to Sweden to get away from the unrest in her homeland. Her humility is refreshing, and her style unforgettable. Enjoy these pictures of her.
