No that’s not the name of another reality TV series but a statement on how talented the contestants of the Project Fame West Africa are. The remaining 7 students in the academy got the chance last weekend to perform their own compositions and they were pretty good. With the assistance of their music director, Ben Ogbeiwi and a visit by J. T Taylor of Kool and the Gang fame to the academy, the students were in high spirits to prove their worth to all of West Africa and the world.
After the double eviction of Caroline and Dorcas on Saturday, it was all or nothing for the remaining contestants who tried disparately to stay out of probation on Sunday. Praise was first on stage with ‘A Woman’s Need’, and in telling what it is that a woman needs and wants and would die for. Annette followed with a soulful and inspirational ‘At Last’, while Kojo sang ‘So Strong’ to the admiration of all as he brought out a somewhat funky side of him on stage.
Bisola’s performed her song, ‘Life’ which could easily be the soundtrack to a major motion movie - according to the judges, and well I tend to agree.
Iyanya’s club/ R&B mix called ‘Love Truly’, justified judge Kwame’s previous endorsement of Iyanya as the R in R&B- maybe that’s a bit over the top, I agree! The always-on-top Nii gave a bit back to Nigeria by singing in Yoruba an almost certified hit, ‘Mo Ni Fe E’. The audience loved it and gave him a lot of love back. Onyaemeachi sealed the night off with a high octane performance of his rock/pop inspired tune ‘Let me be the one’.
The judges were so impressed with the students that it became impossible to place any of them on probation this week. Instead, the directors of the academy have decided that henceforth the public would decide by voting who stays in the competition and who ultimately wins the competition. Therefore in effect all 7 students are on probation this week and the two students with the lowest public votes would be eliminated. Ouch!
