African supermodels Iman and Alek Wek share the historic September cover of Ebony Magazine with Tyra Banks and Kimora Lee Simmons.
Can we just give it up for Iman for being around the longest out of the four ladies on the cover and looking the best? Here it is 30 years after she landed in New York and was met by the press at the airport who were gullable enough to believe that she was discovered in the jungle or was a goat herder and she’s still making major moves.
Yes, yes, please stand up right now and applaud Iman.

And can we also just make sure that no mistake is made about where she is now in her career? Iman still has the body and face to model next to 18 year olds. But she devotes most of her time to her cosmetic company IMAN Cosmetics which she founded in 1994 which is a major player in the cosmetic industry.
Alek stepped on the modeling scene in 1995 and stole the show from her fair skinned counterparts. African models had made moves before on the modeling scene but Alek was the first whose bold African features were embraced and not looked at as ‘too much’.

Alek has been in the game for 12 years already and still walks the runways of big name designers. She has also added acting, author, and entrprenuer to her resume. She appeared in the movie The Four Feathers, released her biography Alek, From Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel and launced her designer handbag line Wek 1933.
