Right to Dream Academy, had a successful debut in the World Finals of the Manchester United Premier Cup placing 5th out of 20 participating teams from across the globe. Right to Dream, a registered charity from Accra, was founded to help talented but underprivileged African children develop their potential through sport and education. At the first ever Africa Finals held at Nike’s Hilversum Campus in Holland, in May, Right to Dream qualified for the World Finals after beating Egyptian team ENPPI at the first ever Africa Finals. At the time Coach Gareth Henderby admitted: “Most of our boys have never been out of Africa so to come here was a big thrill for them and to have the chance to go to Manchester is a huge motivation!”
Ghanaian Boxers back to winning ways

It seems Ghana is back to taking its glory on the international boxing scene. And this past weekend went a long way to boost the nation’s morale as two new champions were created out of Ghana. Joshua Clottey beat American, Zab Judah, after nine rounds to win the IBF welterweight title in Las Vegas, and 27 year old Isaac Nettey triumphed over Togo’s Galley Cudjoe to become the new International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental Super Bantamweight champion at the Lebanon Club House, Accra. » Read more…

Ayoola, a Growing Abstract Expressionist
The ability of an artist to depict his environment in one poignant portrait is a trait that only a few artists possess but something that comes naturally to a young Nigerian abstract expressionist. He is greatly inspired by the nature of the people he meets and he likes to rely on nature to capture and express the characters of people. His mastering of this skill has made his paintings the toast of many local and international exhibitions. He has showcased his paintings in the Netherlands, Italy, and Greece to mention a few.
Breaking New Ground
With a vast experience in Nigeria’s growing entertainment industry, ranging from comedy to fashion, Jafextra could best be described as the ultimate entertainer. As if that was not enough, he has now added music to his impressive resume. I met him recently in Accra to find out a little bit about this new dimension to him. For me it was particularly refreshing to know that Jafextra wants to stay true to his tradition at a period when most of his colleagues have become Americanised or ‘Oyibonised’ as he puts it. Africa doesn’t need Usher knock-offs (P-Square) or KRS-1 incarnates (Mode-9). Ha-ha!!

Fat Joe and Omarion Rock Ghana
The much anticipated “State of the Republic Concert” which was billed to bring Sean Kingston and Fat Joe to Ghana had its fair share of drama, the stuff Hollywood movies are made of. It almost became the “State of Confusion Concert” when organizers were plunged into a state of uncertainty and rescheduling. Sean Kingston pulled out at the last minute apparently because his mum advised him against taking the recommended yellow fever shot before going to Ghana. What a big mama’s boy! But I reckon that the chubby superstar is really afraid of needles because frankly he could have gone against his mum and then later sing ‘Dry Your Eyes’ for his mother. LOL! » Read more…
