I was pleasantly surprised when I got the new issue of Essence Magazine in my mail yesterday. Actresses Sanaa Lathan, Gabrielle Union and Nia Long share the cover. It was a good change from the usual cover suspects *cough Beyonce cough*
Sanaa talks about how excited she is to play a Senegalese woman in her new movie.
The movie is called “Wonderful World”. The independent feature centers on a depressed, divorced and unemployed father (played by Matthew Broderick) who finds solace in his Senegalese roommate’s sister.
Yes it is an interracial story. So what? So many people are focussing on the fact that this is another interracial movie for Sanaa after last year’s “Something New” directed by Morroco’s own Sanaa Hamri and being Dr. Troy’s love interest on the tv series “Nip/Tuck.”
Hollywood does not have many roles for African or African-American actressses so I for one am so happy that Sanaa is working. I can’t wait to see this movie!
And let’s see if Adewale gives her some tips about playing an African woman.

There’s plenty of roles for black actresses and actors. I’m a producer in the business in Los Angelese, I see the scripts that circulate through the industry and I can honestly say that I have read the scripts and have seen great roles for Sanaa Lathan and others. The problems is that the actress/actors agent/managers only give scripts to their clients that can give them (agents/managers) a bigger commission and the actors/actresses end up finding themselves taking whatever comes across their tables since they’re not being given the scripts that can be their breakout role…

I refuse to waiste my money on these trendy white guy meets black girl movies. This BullSh** is getting tired and annoying now. Has she even been to Senegal. I’ve lost respect for her as an actress anyway. Can’t believe people falling for and spending money on this garbage.
