Stars of the Future Celebrates Ghanaian Music

Ghana’s search for the next contemporary urban artist took a different turn when the remaining 10 contestants performed sweet Ghanaian music to mark Ghana’s 48th republic day celebrations. And wow, the performances were just refreshing. Personally, the Ghanaian music night has been the best so far and judging by the response of the audience, I am not alone on that assertion.

The song selection ranged from classic oldies to contemporary highlife music but there was a certain clueless contestant by name Stephanie Abbey who insisted on singing an urban Ghanaian song. She wasn’t just odd but she sang it terribly as well. LOL! Any way some of the songs performed on the special night of Ghanaian music included ‘Odo Handkerchief’ by Nana Fynn; ‘Afrafranto’ by Kojo Antwi, ‘Won Ma Me Nka Bi’ by highlife legend Pat Thomas and ‘Dwo’ by Amanzeba Nat Brew. Both Nana Fynn and the Amanzeba who were guest judges on fthe night expressed satisfaction with the various performances but were especially moved by the renditions given to their own songs on the night. Nana Fynn commented that Adina’s rendition of his song, ‘Odo Handkerchief’ was the best he had heard anyone sing his song. Talk about an endorsement!

Anyway, the night was not all about Ghanaian music; the contestants also came out dressed in stylish attires made from African print. Even the host, Chris Attoh, who usually wears a suit, wore a traditional cloth on the night. It is however sad that after such wonderful performances, one more contestant will be eliminated this week. Who will it be: Adina, Stephanie, Anita, Adwoa, Ike, Deborah, Daniel, David, Sheila or Joseph? Based on their performances, my bet is on either Stephanie or Joseph.
