Darfur Now

Darfur Now

Don Cheadle is the perfect example of someone who refuses to let human crisis go unnoticed when there are means to end it.  His Oscar nominated role in Hotel Rwanda put him the position to know first hand how serious conditions in Africa, especially Darfur are.

Darfur Now is a well done documentary about six individuals - Adam Sterling, Don Cheadle, Hejewa Adam, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, Ahmed Mohammed Abakar, and Pablo Recalde and how they are responding to the crisis in Darfur.

Ahmed Mohammed Abakar helps organize aid for the 47,000 inhabitants of the Hamadea refugee camp.  Abakar leads the camera crew through the difficulties of getting food to starving people.    Adam Sterling is a Southern California student who works relentlessly to draw attention to the crisis by handing out flyers and campaigning for California’s divestment from Sudan.  Don Cheadle uses his celebrity.  Rebel fighter Hejewa Adam describes her journey from when her village was attacked and her three month son was beaten to death while on her back as she was running away from the invaders.  Activist Pablo Recalde leaves behind his wife and children for months at a time in order to direct his World Food Program team in West Darfur.  Luis Moreno-Ocampo is dedicated to the legal process in an effort to bring leaders of the genocide into a system of international justice and judgment.

This documentary is a call to action to everyone.  It shows that no matter who you are and what you do, you can make a difference.  It may be a small one, but it is still a difference.
