Ibinabo Fiberesima gets 7 years for manslaughter

Former beauty queen and popular Nigerian actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for manslaughter which she pleaded not guilty. She was alleged to have killed a medical doctor in a road accident last year after what investigators describe as “careless” driving under the influence of alcohol.

It was reported that the actress was dragged to court by relatives of the deceased due to her attitude towards the issues.  She was earlier fined by a lower magistrate court to the sum of N100, 000 (about $1,000) which she has almost paid according to the report. The presiding judge at the hearing opposed the fine which he described as unreasonable and decided to imprison her in addition.

Many Nigerians have welcomed the decision in a country which they say “there is no justice for the poor’’. The Nigerian judiciary is said to be “weak’’ and “corrupt.’’

I heavily think the presiding judge has something sinister against this single mother of two. Who’s gotta heal those prison wound from the kids? Whats all these re-trial thing against this lady? It’s dangerous trend. Let the judge sleep in his home sweetly at night while thinking about this lady’s kids.

You guys are silly, this lady after all killed someone. A medical doctor, a husband, a father, someones child, someones pride and joy. The lady was accused of driving while intoxicated. Hence, if you’re going to do something that reckless and take another human beings life away, then you better be ready to pay the consequences… I don’t give a damn you the f**k you are. It’s time the judiciary system in Africa really start working and holding EVERYONE ACCOUNTABLE..

Wow, the judge was harsh? What about the medical doctor she killed with her drunk driving? Who’s looking after his own family?

Well well the judiciary are beginning to take notice. I totally agree with the comments left regarding the family of the murdered doctor. This should be a lesson for those who think power and influence would save you from judgment day. The young woman should have thought of the chances of killing herself or others whilst under the influence as a mother of two who should know better. This will serve as a lesson, though I don’t envy anyone serving a sentence in a Nigerian prison. You don’t wish it on your worst enemy. That’s another aspect of the judiciary system the country should open up and totally refurbish.

Someone guilty of a single murder could have his non-parole period reduced to no less than 15 years under the Faint hope clause (American judiciary).
