This powerful film written and directed by veteran filmmaker Haile Gerima (Sankofa, Bush Mama) will screen at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Mirt Sost Shi Amit won awards at the Locarno International Film Festival in 1976 and has received critical acclaim since its release in 1975. Gerima who came to the United States in 1968, returned to Ethiopia to film Mirt Sost Shi Amit. The language of the film is in Amharic, a Semitic language spoken in Ethiopia. Subtitles are in English. Mirt Sost Shi Amit follows the life of a poor family who struggle to maintain amidst a brutal system of labor and a landlord who controls their existence.
