Surrogates – Living a Second Life

Boris Kodjoe is an FBI agent in the sci-fi thriller, Surrogates, which is based on a Robert Venditti/ Brett Weldele book.  He investigates a mysterious murder of a college student linked to the man who helped create a high-tech surrogate phenomenon that allows people to purchase unflawed robotic versions of themselves – fit, good looking remotely controlled machines that ultimately assume their life roles – enabling people to experience life vicariously from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

Punctured Hope: Cinema and Consciousness

Kwesi & Hope:Tyler Perry’s New Hollywood Rising Stars

Tyler Perry is the master at discovering new talent and inaugurates two young rising African stars 10-year old Kwesi Boakye and Hope Olaide Wilson, to his latest number one film “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.” The film hit theaters on Friday, September 11th. The red carpet was rolled out for the screening, held several days prior in the heart of Chelsea, Manhattan. The premier generated a media frenzy as we all waited in line to get the best shot, sound bite or a quick interview from the all star cast: Taraji Henson, Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige and Tyler Perry.

Hotel Rwanda’s Sophie Okonedo to play Winnie Mdikizela-Mandela

It has been officially confirmed, Hotel Rwanda’s and the  Secret Life of  Bee’s  British actor, Sophie Okonedo has been cast to play the leading role in a movie based on the life of  the  legendary Nelson Mandela’s ex wife, Winnie Madikizela -Mandela. Winnie Madikizela -Mandela is famously known for her profound role she played in the South African history during the apartheid times and most importantly she is well known for being Nelson Mandela’s rock and the first African first lady in South Africa.

Fusion Media Creates the O Twins

Fusion Media is a 3-D animation studio that is pushing the limits to come up with a cartoon that combines western design elements with cultural aspects that are ingrained in Nigerian culture.  The insight into Nigerian culture (and the startling realization that Africans are VERY similar culture-wise) through a modern medium is refreshing.

Tribe X Entertainment – Making African Entertainment Mainstream

Tribe X Entertainment has a simple mission.  To promote talent from Africa and help make Nollywood and other african actors and movies as mainstream, if not more so, than Bollywood.  Talent from Nigeria has drawn the interest of  various people in the Diaspora including Akon.  Movies  have been made about Nollywood (Nollywood Babylon, This is Nollywood, etc.), and MTV Base is hosting it’s second MTV Africa Music Awards in Nairobi, Kenya.  People are definitely taking notice.  Jamati Online caught up with Harrison Nwozo to learn more about his company, Tribe X Entertainment, and his vision for it’s future.

Isaach De Bankole Tests ‘The Limits of Control’

Isaach De Bankole is an Cote D’Ivoire actor born to parents from Benin (ironically he has grandparents from Nigeria….truly an African man). He has starred in over 30 films, and won the 1987 César Award for Most Promising Actor for his role in ‘Black Mic Mac’. In 2006 he was Stephen Obanno in the James Bond movie, ‘Casino Royale’.  He has has a degree in acting from Cours Simon and a degree in mathematics from the Universite de Paris.
