Barack Obama’s overdue journey in 2006 to his African roots as a U.S. Senator was documented in this moving documentary. Accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and their children Malia and Sasha, this emotional account takes the man whose chances of becoming President are within arm’s reach all across the continent. Barack narrates the documentary.
He returns to Kenya and speaks to students at the University of Nairobi. He explains that speaking as Senator somewhat makes him feel that his father’s work is vindicated. He returns to Kisumu, his father’s village and visits with his grandmother, and the rest of his extended family. When asked if his grandmother had some advice for him by reporters, Barack jokingly replies, “not to trust reporters.”
The Kenyan people treat Barack like a rock star. They are happy that Kenya’s son has come home. Barack’s sister Auma even comments how Barack is on tv more than Kenya’s President during the visit. Both Michelle and Barack confess how surreal it is to be welcomed in this way when they were unknowns when they were last in Kenya.
The couple even take an AIDS test in front of spectators to encourage everyone to be tested for AIDS and to take advantage of the medicines available to them.
In South Africa, Barack visits the infamous prison on South Africa’s Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was jailed for 21 years. Barack is moved by the experience and explains how he protested during the 90’s about apartheid in South African and coming to Robben island is a full circle moment for him . He also says Nelson Mandela is one of his biggest influences.
In Darfur, Barack visits a refugee camp and listens to stories from women in the camp. He makes sure to let everyone in the camp know that he is there to collect information to take back to the United States so more can be done to help the situation.
A DVD bonus is seeing the Obama family visit a national park on safari.
This DVD is now available in all major music outlets.

Hi, watched this film last night on the CBC and there was a song that was played throughout which I really liked. I have been trying to find it on the web, but to no avail. Does anyone know what it is or where I might find it
