Jawn Murray from Black Voices recently sat down with the beautiful and talented Thandie Newton to discuss her role as Condoleezza Rice in the film ‘W’, as well as her role in RocknRolla as a stern financial advisor.
‘W’ chronicles the life and presidency of George W. Bush. I for one hope the film exposes the failed policies implemented by the Bush administration and the way America has been led down the drain greatly in part to an out of tune, illiterate, commander-in-chief; rather than sugarcoat the legacy of Bush.
‘RocknRolla’, which Madonna’s husband Guy Ritchie wrote and directed, deals with an underground London criminal syndicate after their share of a fortune, derived from a real estate scam. The film, which has an all-star cast, stars such talent as Newton, Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, Tom Wilkinson, and Jeremy Piven.
Newton, the daughter of a Zimbabwean mother of the Shona Tribe and a British father, lived in Zambia until political unrest caused her family to move back to the UK. She has starred in such films as ‘Crash’, ‘Gridlock’d’ and ‘Beloved‘. To read the interview go here.

I love Thandie being Zimbabwean and all but one thing caught my eye when she says that she and Halle were the only black women making movies in Hollywood ten years ago. Now not to castigate her obvious delusions but has she been living under a rock? Hollywood has seen a lot of “black” women since its inception, casing point Hattie Daniels (academy award winner for Gone with the wind), Whoopi Goldberg, Alfre Woodard, Loretta Devine, Nia long, Regina King, Queen Latifah, Vanessa Williams, Cicely Tyson, Della Reese mate i could go on forever. She better get of her high horse and obvious misconception of the colour black
