The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) is growing in stature each year, featuring a wider selection of truly great films as it gains recognition internationally. The list of films that have been chosen for screenings are listed here and represent a great cross-section of Africa and the Diaspora. To view the screening schedule, visit this page.
The ZIFF festival will be held June 27 – July 4, 2009 and will focus on the theme, “Enduring Links: Media, People, and Environment” and will feature Danny Glover as the special guest of honor. The focus is on how media, film and environment come together in common links. Danny Glover’s film, Toussant, opens the festival, while 24 African film directors are set to attend, including four female directors debuting their own feature films. Reggae Sunplash is a musical theme at this year’s event, with international acts collaborating on a Bob Marley tribute (see the musical lineup here).
ZIFF is dedicated to showcasing great East African films in a venue of great beauty. It is an opportunity for lessor known and unknown film directors to meet accomplished producers, directors, and promoters, and showcase the talent that abounds in Africa.
