The African Entertainment Industry has grown leaps and bounds with Nollywood (Nigeria’s Hollywood) seen as Africa’s movie cash cow. Nollywood signifies what is possible in Africa and the Diaspora. According to published numbers and Nollywood experts, film revenues generated by this audience were estimated at $4 billion (US dollars) last year alone.
As Hollywood looks for more story-lines and ways to expand into new markets, Africa and its vast talent base (both at home and in the Diaspora) is viewed as an “emerging market.” So, after producing and directing over seventy-five music videos for top American Artists like Wu-tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Bounty Killa & Master P., Liberian –born Director Gerald “Gee-Bee” Barclay returned to his African roots and began working with many African musicians- bringing his vast experience full circle. His movie credentials include, The Love of Liberty (Gee-Bee Productions), Bloody Streetz (Artisan Home Entertainment) and more recently Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan (BET Home Entertainment) scheduled for release November 18, 2008.
