Professor Acholonu, a former Fulbright scholar and visiting professor at the Westchester consortium, Purchase, USA, becomes the second Nigerian author after Chinua Achebe to receive a professorship award. It was awarded by the Pilgrims University and Theological Seminar in the United States for in recognition of a single publication.

Breast Cancer brought many Africans out to support research and information. Akon was spotted supporting research to cure breast cancer and Maimah Karmo was on Oprah to talk about her passion to educate women on breast cancer and her foundation, Tigerlily. Save Africa’s Children had their first annual music festival which was well attended by some big-name celebrities. Suzanne Engo is still running for Africa and doing very well. Bill Clinton (somewhat of a celebrity) lent his support to Kids Gorilla Act Pact.
Chimamanda Adichie won a MacArthur Foundation Grant of $100,000 for 5 years! Catherine Achonolu was awarded a professorship for her publication.
