9ice Rocks Ghana to ‘Gongo Aso’

The multi-award winning Nigerian hip-hop artist 9ice on Saturday treated a limited audience at the Accra International Conference Center to an energetic performance in a gig dubbed ‘Ghana 9ice Concert’.

9ice-029.jpg9ice, born Abolore Akande, has earned international recognition for his hit song, ‘Gongo Aso’, winning him the MOBO award for best African act in 2008, and a performance for Mandela at his 46664 Birthday Concert. Without a doubt, the Yoruba rapper is currently one of Nigeria’s foremost musical culture exponents. Tagged the hit-maker, his use of proverbial lyrics, coupled with his unique style and brilliant vocal ability made him an instant fan favorite.

ameyaw-debrah-and-9ice.jpgThe Ghana 9ice Concert was hosted in collaboration with Yes Records of Nigeria so the label used the outdoor concert to showcase some of their current and upcoming artists. They included GXploits (of the hit Bolu Molu Merete fame) Steel, Shank, Jah Bless, and others.

Performances from Ghana came from the likes of Tinny, Asem, Richie, Tiffany, Ramsey, Chemphe and Ayigbe Edem. Due to poor publicity, and some uncertainty about whether the concert would take place or not, the show didn’t pack a huge crowd but the few that turned up certainly had a ball especially with the much-anticipated performance of ‘Gongo Aso’ by 9ice.
