After 8 weeks of amazing singing and keen competition, the Stars of the Future grand finale was reduced to a 4-way, 2-round bout between 2 guys and 2 girls namely Anita Gyan, Adina Ndamse, Daniel Netty, and Ike Ologo. But at the close of this game of numbers, the slinky and charming Adina was the contestant that accumulated the most amount votes from the public and the judges to win the coveted recording contract and brand new car.
In the first round, Adina knocked out the competition with her delightful rendition of Rhianna’s ‘Umbrella’. However, Anita’s version of Alicia Key’s ‘No One’, and Daniel’s rendition of ‘Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes’, were not too far behind. Ike seemed to have found the pan-African in him as he did the first of his two African themed songs–Freddie Meiway’s ‘Nana’.
All four finalists had another chance to either redeem themselves or score more points in round two, where they each performed their own compositions. This time, Anita came back really strong to knock out the competition with her inspirational and melodic song titled ‘Tomorrow’. Adina sang ‘Home is Where the Heart Is’ while Daniel and Ike sang ‘My Desire’ and ‘Africa Yele’ respectively. Judges Bibie Brew, Zapp Mallet and Doreen Andoh all acknowledged the fact that not many musicians could compose their own songs and congratulated all the contestants for their efforts.
In general, the performances were a bit dreary, perhaps due to the late start, had unnecessary dialogs, and pointless cameos. However, some young artists like Tinny, Asem, Edem, Irene Logan, and Becca were able to bring the crowd alive.
Last year’s winner of Stars of the Future, Justice Nhyira Owen, took the auditorium to church when he performed ‘Thank You’ and ‘Holy Holy’ from his forthcoming album.
After all said and done, Adina was declared winner, Anita came second, Daniel was third and Ike took forth position. All four finalists were adequately reward with prizes from sponsors of the contest.
