Ahmed Soultan is a Moroccan musician who sings in English, French, and Arabic. The influence of his home, Morocco, and the place he grew up in, France, seep throughout the his album, Tolerance. It merges these three languages and their associated cultures into a great mix of soulful music with a hint of African rhythm.
Born in Morocco, in a village of the region of Souss, Ahmed Soultan spent his youth in France, punctuated with regular trips back to his country of origin, where he soaked himself in the surf-culture. He finally decided to move back to Morocco for good and started to play around on a guitar that he borrowed. In 1997 he and two of his friends formed the French band, ” Afrodiziac “. He learned the business end of music and continued to develop his musical skills. Ya Salaam is wonderful peaceful song with an Arabic beat to it. Perdu has a wonderful acoustic guitar accompaniment, Brothers n’ Sisters has a great tune, but Shy seems to be somewhat basic for his talents. “Gimme Ur Name” is reminiscent of an Anthony David or Anthony Hamilton style. Overall, this album is calm and peaceful and great for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
