Aaah Akon my brother, what’s up with the dire need for street cred? What happened to just using your talents to get ahead? I am not sure that building up a gangster rep will help you in the long run, especially once the money starts rolling in en masse.
Akon is currently being touted as a man not given to telling the truth about his crimes. Such a shame, especially when he is quite popular the world over for his music. Focus, Akon. Don’t let the mess take away from your music.
His South African tour was very well received. He performed with Fat Joe and had some backup from Black Violin (these are two men[Will-b and KeV Marcus] who play a mean violin). Loyiso and rapper, Obita, gave a show-stopping performance that made the big boys take notice!

I sincerely hope we outgrow the need for injecting “gangsta vibes” into every piece of melodic music coming out of black parts of the world.

thank you Mwangi this supposed need to impress fans with American ghetto credibility is sad for many reasons but most of all in my opinion what really saddens me is how the world at large have put on the pedestal people who tout ignorance, violence, self hate and sexist dichotomy. And how these “folk” is held as being representative of black people at large. when is this stupidity going to end??

My hope is soon and very soon. You only have to step away from the radio for a brief while and come back to listen to a 50 cent record to realize something is very wrong when people spend more time discussing whether or not Snoop Dogg should be allowed into Australia (he was banned) as opposed to the ghettos these artists claim to represent.
