African music is usually hard to find, especially the really great stuff that you can only find on cassette in Africa.  There are so many gems that don’t get exposed so it was especially gratifying to see that there was a website dedicated to putting some of the best music out there, in a forum that would attract the most eyes.

The blog is called Awesome Tapes From Africa, and there were some really great songs from all over Africa.  I listened to Shadia and loved the style, was impressed by Ramatou Diakate, loved ‘You May Kiss Your Bride’ by Bollie, and loved the modern yet traditional style of the Ethiopian song.  There are descriptions about the artists and their style of music.  Music is from various countries including Senegal, Ethiopia, Mali, Morocco, Eritrea, and Ghana. Brian Shimkovitz, the blogger, has been putting the music on the net for all to hear since 2006.
