I remember meeting Miriam Makeba for the first time backstage in New York after a performance of Sarafina! which had the cast crying and paying tribute to the Queen of African Music. The event was later recorded in a documentary on the musical, but she was so powerful in person that the image really didn’t capture the beauty and strength that she exuded. It is hard to believe that she is gone, but I am sure that she is making sweet music in the hereafter, in the company of so many other great ones!
