Chosan helps Africa Celebrate U2

In the Name of Love - Africa celebrates U2

Chosan seems to be everywhere a positive impact needs to be made. His latest effort involves working with Les Nubians, Angelique Kidjoe, Vieux Farka Toure, Vusi Mahlasela, Keziah Jones, Soweto Gospel Choir, and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars in a tribute to Bono and U2. The tribute pays homage to Bono and U2’s humanitarian relief efforts to alleviate suffering from disease and poverty in Africa. The great part about it is that the songs are all an African interpretation of U2’s songs. I love the idea of jamming to a traditional African sound with U2 lyrics, and their creative interpretation is phenomenal.

The artists themselves have seen or been a part of various struggles in Africa so the project has a special meaning for them (Les Nubians from Chad, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars, and the Soweto Gospel Choir and Vusi Mahlasela from South Africa). Angelique Kidjo is always willing to lend a hand to anything that benefits Africa. Proceeds from the sale of this album will benefit the Global Fund and its fight against AIDS, Malaria, and TB. Visit the website for more information.

Angelique Kidjo sings her interpretation of Mysterious Ways, and Cheikh Lo sings I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For in a beautiful Senegalese language. Les Nubians sing With or Without You. Chosan lends his talents to a song with the African Underground All-Stars featuring Optimist and Iyeoka in this song called Desire. Listen to it exclusively here at Jamati. The album will be released April 1, 2008.
