Mama Mirriam Makeba might no longer be with us but her music will forever live on. Recently Mirriam Makeba’s most famous hit song “Pata Pata” has been featured in the new 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour commercial and ironically enough this is the same and the last song that she performed shortly after her passing in November 2008, in Italy. Surely she is not forgotten, Lala Ngoxolo (Rest in peace). Click here for the commercial: Mirriam Makeba\’s 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour commercial

Hey, I realize that she isn’t immune to the commercialization of authentic music, but man, did it feel cheap, tawdry, and like the soul of the song had been eviserated.
Every time I hear Miriam Makemba’s music, I’m compelled to get up and dance my ass off.
That motherfucking bullshit advertisement make me get up and bitch. I’m glad that someone is making money from her hardwork, but God Damn, does her music ever sound insincere as a soundtrack for the newest compact sedan.
If she was alive or not, this use of her music is bullshit and I think if you’ve been a fan of her’s for years that you have the right to feel a little upset too.
Please, if you have a constructive argument against my statements, please post it. Because I’d love to her the rational reason for the willed loss of authority, legitimacy, and authenticity. Please?
Thanks.
Kendal

Perhaps it is an opportunity to expose Ms. Makeba’s music to a new audience. My wife and I had never heard the song before, but we saw the Honda commercial and within ten seconds my wife loved the song. She wanted to know what it was, so with a quick Google search we found it. We downloaded it from Amazon, listened to it a few times, and now we can’t get it out of our heads. It’s an enchanting song. We think our grandchildren will like it. And so it spreads.
