This past Saturday Glasgow, SECC became home to numerous artists and fans from all different walks of life as the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) awards took place, crowning the 2009 winners. Launched in 1996, the MOBO awards are an embrace to urban music in Europe and one of the most popular nominee categories is the “Best African Act” category which, in the past, has seen the likes of Batman Samini and 9Ice walk away with the award. This year taking one for team Africa was non either than Nigerian-German hip-hop/soul singer and song writer, Nneka Egbuna.

Nneka Egbuna
Although performing has always been Nneka’s thing, her professional musical journey didn’t emerge until 2003 when she started working closely with legendary hip hop beat-maker, DJ Farhot.
After that the sky ,became her center stage as opportunities presented themselves, becoming the opening act for artists such as Sean Paul, Gnarls Barkley, Femi Kuti, and Bilal. Ever since then Nneka never has worked hard and recorded three albums which earned her singles spots on the German and UK music charts. Nneka is all about truth–telling it like it is. She is known for her ability to weave profound truths and not holding back, which is one of the reasons why she was the only African who scooped a MOBO this year. She is also up for a Channel O award later this month.
