Kae Sun out with ‘Lion On a Leash’

Canada-based Ghana-born singer/songwriter/poet, Kae Sun’s much anticipated album; ‘Lion on a Leash’ has finally been released through Urbnet/Fontana North. The album release was marked with a release party on October 6th at Lula Lounge, Toronto and this would be followed by a Hamilton album release Concert October 15th at The Casbah.

Christine is an artist who has had a profound impact in the  many facets of  the music industry, from being the co- founder of Ubuntu Entertainment; a composer for Deepa Grooves, a New York House Music Label; an assistant manager at Guitar Center; and a Production manager for JSM, a  prestigious music production house also in New York City.  Adding together her string of connections to the music industry its no wonder she is still present and still going strong.

Paying tribute to Africa’s most influential Jazz musicians, Christine is wrapping up the work on her soon to be released debut album, “Dance Mama”; a tribute album to the legendary musicians who paved the way for artistry include Hugh Masekela, Abdullah Ibrahim, Mahotella Queens, Robbie Jansen and the late Mama Miriam Makeba. The most important element of the album is the concept of Ubuntu, a very important word amongst the African culture which means “humanity”. Nneka Egbuna takes one for team Africa at the 2009 MOBO awards

This past Saturday Glasgow, SECC became home to numerous artists and fans from  all different walks of life as the  Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) awards took place, crowning the 2009 winners. Launched in 1996, the MOBO awards are an embrace to urban music in Europe and one of the most popular nominee categories is the “Best African Act” category which, in the past, has seen the likes of Batman Samini and 9Ice walk away with the award. This year taking one for team Africa was non either than Nigerian-German hip-hop/soul singer and song writer, Nneka Egbuna.

Meet Noisette’s Shingai Shoniwa

Born Shingai Elizabeth Maria Shoniwa, she is a Zimbabwean native who grew up with a single mother in South London and is best know as the front woman for the UK-based Indie Rock band, the “Noisettes.The  “Noisettes” is a three-piece band consisting of Dan Smith on lead guitar/vocals, Jamie Morrison on drums, and Africa’s very own Shingai Shoniwa on Vocals/bass guitar. With years of music experience but only three years of being together as a band, “Noisettes” is already making big waves both in the UK and the USA. Recently the band performed on the Wendy William’s show in promotion of their self-titled album, “Noisettes“.
