Somi: If The Rains Come First

Rwandan/Ugandan New York based New African Soul-Jazz artist Somi is at it again promoting her newly released album titled “If The Rains Come First“, a title taken from wise words from her mother  when she said that ” Rain as unpredictable as it is could be both a blessing and a challenge; the blessings can come before or after the rain, as its all in the timing”.

Now, years later, Somi is sharing that notion through her newly self penned album “If The Rains Come First“, a lounge, jazzy, meditative and very cozy 11 track album which features  songs like ‘Hot Blue’, ‘Wallflower Blues’, ‘Be Careful’, ‘Be Kind’, ‘Rising’, ‘Enganjyani‘ which features the legendary South African Jazz artist Hugh Masekela and the album’s self-titled single “If The Rains Come First“.

This album transcends all expectations and Somi’s silky vocals, accompanied by her band’s ability to compliment her forever growing musical style, doesn’t disappoint whatsoever. Personally I think this is by far the best work I’ve heard from Somi and, with Christmas around the corner, there is no doubt that this is a must-give gift to family and loved ones.
