I remember it clearly it was on a December afternoon driving in the streets of Johannesburg when a song titled “Destiny” stimulated my ears and from then on I was on a mission to discover more about this trio group called Malaika. The more I discovered of them the more in love I fell with not only they music but them as a group for the style and energy they added to the South African music industry was amazing.

Now, 7 years later, the trio is no more, as the group is saddened by their fellow member’s sudden passing. Jabu Ndaba’s long struggle from TB ended with him in hospital trying to remain positive but as the cliche goes “what is meant to be, will be”. I’m sure Malaika will continue making their mark in the industry, after all they’ve collected a South African Music Award, a Kora Award, and a Channel O Music Award.

Jabu Ndaba might have passed on but his incredible contribution to the group’s success will always be remembered. He was the main ingredient in the group’s musical success over the years.
