Styl-Plus Crew - Smooth RnB sounds

I just stumbled on a group that is really great.  Styl-Plus Crew is a group out of Nigeria that can really sing.  They formed their names from the first names of the founding members, Shifi Emoefe, Tunde Akinsanmi, Yemi Akinwonmi, and Lanre Faneyi.  Lanre Faneyi passed away in 1999 and Zeal Onyecheme took his place. To accomodate the new member, they added Plus to their original name, becoming Styl-Plus.

Styl-Plus Crew - Smooth RnB sounds

Originally a gospel group, they branched out into R&B and have produced some wonderful records.  Yemi Akinwonmi left the group in 2000 and in 2003 the remaining members teamed up with Anthony ‘T-Jazz’ Ukpong and Joseph ‘Joey’ Ukpong to form their own record label– Styl-Plus Music.  They released two singles which were an instant hit.  In 2006 they released the album, Expressions, and the lead song, Imagine That was used for the first show of Big Brother, Nigeria.   I love the fact that they all CAN sing.   I get tired of people who sound good until the music goes off and then only the cats in heat want to respond.

They won the 2005 Channel O Best R&B Video Award for Call My Name, and have been Kora and Amen Award nominees. To learn more about this group, visit their myspace page or their website.
