Swahili Nation - Rapping in Swahili and Repping Africa

Swahili Nation - Rapping in Swahili and Repping Africa

Swahili Nation was originally founded by two Kenyan brothers, Andrew and Ken Muturi, and a Tanzanian, Cool James. Cool James went solo in 1992 and they added two Ugandans, Ken Kayongo, and Charlie “King” Todwong to the group. They were very popular and soon signed a deal in 1996 with Dr. Alban of Dr. Records.

Wayne and Ken-Zo

The only original member left is Ken Kayongo, a.k.a. Ken-Zo. He was joined by Wayne Beckford a.k.a. TRUTH and together they have produced “Hakuna Matata”, “Nyama”, “Mpenzi” and more.  They have featured extensively on Channel “O” and are garnering a large fan base across Africa and in the diaspora.

This is a formidable group and I look forward to seeing more of their music. To quote them, “That is Swahili Nation. A group that takes young urban trends and mixes in the earthy African lyric to do what few can.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!
