Viviane N’dour, former sister-in-law to the famous Youssou N’dour, is scheduled to perform a the Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland on June 22, 2012 with the Jolof Band. Her fresh fusion of mbalax, hip-hop, and r&b makes for a delightful evening of music and a journey into contemporary African music styles.

Viviane was born in Senegal and was catapulted to fame when she joined Youssou N’dour’s band, Super Etoile, as a backup singer. She can be heard on several tracks on Youssou’s 1994 CD ‘The Guide (Wommat)’ and the 2002 CD ‘Nothing’s in Vain’. Her first release was ‘Entre Nous (Between Us)’ with the hit song ‘Sama Nene’ (My Honey) in 1999. Viviane’s next two albums were Nature and Le Show. The latter features her own band, the Jolof Band, with whom she was on a world tour in 2001. In 2002 ‘Yii Gainde‘, a song from Viviane’s new album ‘Tere Nelaw’, was nominated for a Kora Award in the Best African Arrangement category.
Her on-stage style is unique, and mostly spontaneous. She responds to the live drummers and ad-libs through the songs making for a unique musical experience each time. Tickets are available on the Fillmore website and through Ticketmaster.
