There is a great project that is being used in Kenya to combat the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus. The project, called the HIV Free Generation, is a game that children can play to learn how to implement positive behaviors and educate on HIV/AIDS.
The game, Pamoja Mtaani, has youth play different games as one of the characters and make decisions for them. They gain points and learn, subliminally, at the same time. The characters include a medical student, a matatu tout (conductor), an aspiring musician, a techie, and a soccer player. The programs will be introduced in modules at schools, business centers, internet cafes, and religous centers. It is a multiplayer game developed by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment with voice overs by Kenyans, music by Kenyan music icons including Prezzo, Jua Cali, Redsan, and Amani. All research was done by Kenyan companies. One of those companies, GPange, helps empower youth through education. Supported by several famous musicians including Wahu, Nameless, and Madtraxx, it has launched an incredibly successful campaign.
The animation is pretty good and the views of Nairobi quite realistic. Overall, it is a great concept and one that should have many playing with glee. For more information about this game, and the concept behind it, visit the website.
