Franklin Nonyelu Okam is a Nigerian who was a member of the Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award, and the Outland Trophy watch lists in 2007. A three-time All-Big 12 Conference selection, he is a strong run defender who has helped his team, the Longhorns, rank sixth in rush defense and finish third nationally.
He was a star in high school with Class 5A All-State recognition in football and track-&-field, and was a Parade All-American in his senior year. His other awards include All-District honors in his sophomore and junior years, finished fifth at the 2003 Texas 5A state meet in the discus (174-6), Freshman All-American, and 2006 Playboy All-American among an extensive list of others.
He was an honor student in school with a 3.9 GPA and was ranked among the top 30 students in his senior high school class.
His ability to use his intellect and his sheer power to make a difference in the defensive line make him a strong probability to be drafted.
