This is sure to disappoint the many fans who were waiting to watch Didier Drogba work his magic during the World Cup in South Africa. In a friendly match against Japan Marcus Tulio Tanaka’s knee connected with his elbow, fracturing it.
His Cote D’Ivoire teammates remain optimistic, opting to wait for the final verdict from a doctor. “It’s a fracture in his arm,” a spokesman said. “The doctor hasn’t said yet whether he can play in the World Cup. We don’t know if he will be able to play the first game – that depends on the verdict of the medical team. But he’s definitely not out.”
This would indeed be a blessing. Much of the team’s hopes of moving forward were tied to Drogba being an integral part of the team. A final verdict from a doctor will determine if he plays or not. I am sure many fingers remain crossed as people wait to hear whether he will play or not. Let us hope so. His playing style is worth watching and is always a huge draw.
