Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia breaks Marathon World Record

Haile Gebrselassie broke the Marathon World record (which he held) on Sunday in Berlin when he won the Berlin Marathon in 2:03:59 .  It would be the third time that he had participated in this particular marathon, making him the first man to win the Berlin marathon three times.  This is his 26th world record!

Mulu Seboka  also broke a world record by running her marathon in  2:29:05.  She won the Mumbai Marathon in India earlier this year.

Kenya decided to grant Pamela Jelimo a diplomatic passport to celebrate her big achievement.  Her winning the IAAF golden prize of  $1 million has brought pride to Kenya.  It has also brought her a flood of suitors who no doubt are interested in helping her spend her winnings!
