Jason Dunford - Kenya’s Olympic hopeful

Jason Edward Dunford is from a very prominent family (his mother, Geraldine, is the granddaughter of Abraham Block, founder of Block Hotels, and his father, Martin, is the chairman of the Tamarind Group [the famous Carnivore Restaurant is part of that group]).

Jason Dunford - Kenya’s Olympic hopeful

He established himself early in swimming circles when he competed in high school swimming competitions in Kenya, winning several competitions. In 2006 he won several medals in the African Swimming Championships (two gold medals [100 m butterfly and 50 m backstroke], three silvers [50 m butterfly, 100 m and 200 m freestyle] and one bronze [50 m freestyle]) and established himself as the first Kenyan to ever win a continental medal.

The 2007 All-Africa Games saw him walk away with three gold medals, two silver medals, and three bronze medals. In the 2008 Olympics, he qualified for the 100m butterfly finals where he came in 5th. Although he didn’t win, it is safe to say that he is one to watch as he continues his pursuit for more medals in competitions around the world.
