Rhodes previously worked with the team in November last year during a three-week training camp in Pretoria.  He is a former Proteas star, who played first-class cricket for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, KwaZulu-Natal and Natal.  He retired from Test cricket in 2000.

To date he is still a familiar figure in the cricket circuit.
