Mathias Kiwanuka | Linebacker | New York Giants | #97
Mathias Kiwanuka proudly displayed a Ugandan flag in his dorm room as a reminder of his African heritage and in memory of his late grandfather, Benedicto Kiwanuka, who was elected Uganda’s first prime minister in 1961 and was assassinated in 1972 by Idi Amin.
He started off as a backup defensive end for the New York Giants, and then switched to linebacker. After a shaky start, he showed tremendous skill and was moved to starting linebacker. An injury halted his 2007 campaign but he is expected to make a full recovery and be an integral part of the 2008 starting team.
